Despite drug violence, many travel to Mexico

With all the the media coverage on Mexico's drug wars, I would think that some students would have decided not to go to Mexico for spring break. But, according to Molly O'Neill's B&W article, students didn't let the U.S. Department of State's travel warnings. Do you think this is because trips had already been planned? Would we have seen a decrease in students traveling to Mexico if the news broke last semester, when most people were still planning trips?

  1. I think students still traveling to Mexico on spring break despite the drug violence, is partly due to the fact that their trips were already planned before the news broke out. Yet I also think that students don't completely understand what is going on or the dangers of it. They thought that it would just not affect them at all as long as they didn't leave the tourist areas and their resorts. The students' parents were probably more nervous for them to go than the actual students.
